Buddha Shakyamuni taught many meditational methods
which were intended to watch the operation of the true nature
of mind. The many meditational techniques were taught because
of people's different personality, concentration level and skills
level. Buddha taught methods which suited the individual person
according to such situations and their traits.
Meditation is a crucial part of Buddhist teachings
because it is only through meditation that one can bring forth
the theoretical teachings into practice. Through meditating on
one's own true nature, one will eventually realise their interconnectedness
with all living beings and eventually through persistence, one
can achieve liberation from samsara and attain nirvana through
meditation.
One effective technique of meditation is with the
concentration of the breath. Watching the breath, whether in one
tiny spot, or the rhythmn of breath, stills thoughts and build
concentration. In meditation, it is the aim of the practitioner
to be persistent in the technique and to remain equanimous to
all thoughts and sensations.
